Soprano Izabela Matula was born in Poland. Her 2019/2020 schedule concentrates around Verdi. She debuted as Aida in Kiel in August, then as Leonora in Trovatore in Mannheim (September-January) and in Linz (January-June). She also debuts as Leonora in La Forza del Destino on the stage of Frankfurt Opera in June 2020. She also appears as a guest in National Opera in Warsaw as Tosca (October-November) and Halka (February), and in Nürnberg as Tamara in Rubinstein’s Daemon.

Before graduating as opera singer from Cracow Academy of Music, she studied piano, theory of music and composition. During her studies and afterwards she partecipated in numerous vocal courses and masterclasses – among others, those of Teresa Berganza, Charles Kellis, Ileana Cotrubas, Charlotte Lehmann, Maria Fołtyn, Leopold Spitzer, Elisabeth von Magnus, Urszula Trawińska – Moroz. Currently remains under vocal coaching of professor Neil Semer. She took part in many international vocal competitions such as Deutsches Lied Wettbewerb-Sommerakademie Prague-Budapest – Wien (1st prize), Ada Sari International Vocal Competition (2nd prize), OperSchlossLaubach in Laubach (1st prize) and Wilhelm Stenhammar International Singing Competition (3rd prize). She also represented Poland in BBC Singer of the World in 2009, reaching 2nd round.

Her broad stage repertoire spans from main soprano parts in Italian operas such as mentioned Verdi’s Aida, Trovatore, La forza del destino, Luisa Miller, Otello, Stiffelio and Un Ballo in Maschera, Pucicni’s Madama Butterfly (Mannheim), Suor Angelica, Tosca (Darmstadt, Magdeburg, Düsseldorf), Liu in Turandot and Mimi in La Boheme (Bilbao)m as well as Mozart roles such as Contessa in Nozze di Figaro and Donna Elvira in Don Giovanni (Dortmund, Bonn) Bonn). She also specialises In German and Slavic repertoire such as Wagner’s Lohengrin, Tchaikovsky’s Mazeppa and Eugene Onegin (Linz), Janacek’s Katia, Smetana’s Dalibor (Frankfurt), Weinberger’s Švanda Dudak (Palermo).  You may also find a rare curiosities in her portfolio such as Menotti’s Consul, Britten’s Peter Grimes and Offenbach’s The Tales of Hoffmann.

As guest soloist Izabela appeared in numerous th concert halls all over the world such as Mariinsky Theater in St. Petersburg(K. Penderecki, Powiało na mnie morze snów – cond. V. Gerghiev), Simón Bolívar Concert Hall in Caracas, Berliner Konzerthaus, Doha Concert Hall, Darmstadt Koncerthaus, Musikverein Graz or Warsaw National Philharmonic.
